Please Support $$$ JDRF - Sat 6th May 160km Ride

2 May 2017 by Ben Nilsson

This Saturday morning 4 Newington Dad’s Ben Nilsson, Garth Lamberton, Emmanuele Silanesu and Ben Scott are intending to cycle 160km through the hills of the Barossa Valley in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This organistaion is about funding research into turning Type 1 Diabetes into Type None. Previous fundraising efforts have contributed immensely to knowledge for a cure.

Type 1 diabetes is NOT caused by overindulgence, and can be cured through tablets or dietary controls. Type 1 often starts in the young and at present, has lifelong injections (or pumps), monitoring and serious side effects if not managed correctly.

We all have a story about why we are motivated to ride; this is mine;

31 years ago, I started going out with the love of my life Karen, (now wife and mother of 2 wonderful children). Karen has Type 1, which was diagnosed when she was 15. She manages it pretty well, but sometimes, damage from Type 1 Diabetes isn’t apparent until later in life and can be devastating and debilitating. I’m riding in the hope that my efforts and the contribution of donors help to turn Type 1 into Type NONE.
