2018 Season Notes

7 Mar 2018 by Andrew Hirschhorn

Hi all,

The 2018 season is shaping up. We currently have about 170 registered players across about 17 teams/squads, ranging from Under 5 ‘Tiny Tots’ to Under 15s (junior squads), an All Age Men’s squad and an Over 30s Women’s squad.

We are still accepting registrations in Tiny Tots, Under 6s/7s/8s/9s and 14s/15s (pending trials), AAM (pending trials) and 30s Women’s.

We’re also very keen to complete an Under 10s/11s Girls squad, so if your daughter (or friends) is/are turning 9, 10 or 11 this year, and keen to play on Sunday mornings with a great group of girls, we’d love to hear from you. Beginners/new players are welcome.

Other age-groups are currently being wait-listed.

We have been working hard to put players in teams this week, and should have these finalised and posted by the weekend (pending new registrations).

The first official round of the season (Tiny Tots, mixed and boys’/men’s teams) is the weekend after Easter (Saturday 7th April). Girls’ and women’s teams kick off the weekend before Easter.

We have now got access to Wilson Park, so teams will be able to start training from next week. We’ll be communicating with coaches, who will then alert their teams as to the days/times of training. As with previous years, we will be using TeamApp for club communication, so please download the app if you haven’t already.

As with last year, we will look to have a welcome morning/internal trial day at Wilson Park before the season starts – we expect this to be on Saturday March 24th, so please put that in your diary. If team kits are ready, we will aim to distribute them on that day. More details to follow.

We are still looking for coaches/managers for a number of teams, particularly in the younger age-groups (Tiny Tots, Under 6s, Under 7s). Please remember that we are a community club and rely on parents/families to fulfil these roles – we are happy to support new coaches and advise if/as needed. If we don’t get nominations then the job will need to be shared among parents week-to-week. Please note that you do not need any particular football expertise to coach at those levels, and that parents of these younger age-groups are expected to be at training sessions and games in any case.

Finally, we will continue to need people to step up and help every week with ground set-up and put-away, ground management and refereeing. We plan to roster this to teams throughout the season, with all parents expected to help out when their team is rostered on.

Looking forward to a great season,

Andrew Hirschhorn
