Riding for Luca
4 years ago one of my mate’s sons was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes; a diagnosis that has not only changed his son’s life dramatically, but one that has impacted the entire family’s ‘everyday’.
Ongoing blood tests, countless daily finger-pricks, the emotional rollercoaster of fluctuating insulin levels, scrutinising each mouthful & making sure to always enter the right numbers into ‘the dreaded pump’ would be hard enough for an adult let alone a little kid struggling to work out why this had to happen to him.
When my mate told us about Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the ride (160kms in Adelaide in January – ADELAIDE…. IN….JANUARY – 160KMS) to cure diabetes he was planning on fundraising for, a few of us got together and thought we could make a bigger difference if we did it together. Not to mention that training for this intense ride would be far better if we were there to support each other to keep pedaling.
So that’s how I became one of four Dad’s & great mates aiming to raise at least $16,000 (at least $3,500 each) to change the world for kids like Luca dealing with the unfair life-changing impacts a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis brings. Something we all sincerely hope the work of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation can put a stop to with our support.
